## Ovulation Calculator

Estimate a fertile date range, ovulation date and next period from the first day of your last period and your average cycle length.

First day of your last periodEnter the first day of menstrual bleeding. Use the date picker; the input format follows your browser.

Average cycle length (days)Count from the first day of one period to the first day of the next. Enter 21 to 45 days.

**Understanding this estimate**

This prediction assumes 14 days between ovulation and the next period. The range runs from five days before to one day after estimated ovulation. Actual timing can vary, even with regular cycles.

### How are these dates calculated?

Add your average cycle length to the first day of your last period, then subtract 14 days to estimate ovulation. This calculator cannot tell whether ovulation actually occurred.

### Limits of calendar predictions

Calendar predictions are less informative with irregular cycles. The range does not identify safe days and does not guarantee pregnancy. Discuss your individual circumstances with a healthcare professional.

Educational calendar estimate for natural menstrual cycles. Do not use it as contraception, a diagnosis or confirmation of ovulation. Irregular cycles, postpartum changes, breastfeeding and hormonal contraception can make this prediction unsuitable.

Your period date and cycle length are calculated in this browser. This tool does not send them to the server or save them in browser storage.

## How to use this ovulation calculator

Enter the first day of your last menstrual period, then enter your average cycle length. Cycle length is the number of days from the first day of one period to the first day of the next. For example, periods beginning on October 1 and October 29 are 28 days apart.

Use your own dates and cycle length. The default of 28 days is an example, not a statement about your cycle. The calculator accepts whole-number cycles from 21 to 45 days; this input range is not a medical definition of a normal cycle.

## What the calculation assumes

**Estimated next period = last period start + average cycle length.**
**Estimated ovulation = estimated next period − 14 days.**

The displayed date range begins five days before estimated ovulation and ends one day after it. That is seven calendar dates, including both endpoints. It is a planning estimate, not a measurement of fertility on each day.

For a last period starting October 1, 2026 and a 28-day cycle, the next period is estimated as October 29, ovulation as October 15 and the displayed range as October 10–16. The calculator counts elapsed calendar days; it does not simply label cycle day 14 as the result.

## Why actual ovulation can be different

The fixed 14-day assumption is a simplification. The [NHS explains menstrual-cycle timing](https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/periods/fertility-in-the-menstrual-cycle/) and notes that ovulation is difficult to pinpoint. A date calculated from previous periods cannot confirm that an egg was released.

Cycle patterns can change. Calendar estimates are less useful with irregular periods and may be unsuitable after childbirth, while breastfeeding or when using hormonal contraception. See [ACOG’s explanation of fertility awareness](https://www.acog.org/womens-health/faqs/fertility-awareness-based-methods-of-family-planning) for the distinction between calendar predictions and observing fertility signs.

## Can this identify safe days?

No. Dates outside the displayed range must not be treated as safe days for unprotected sex. This calculator is not a contraceptive method and cannot rule out pregnancy, diagnose infertility or guarantee conception. For individual medical questions, consult a healthcare professional.

## Privacy and language

The calculation runs in your browser. This calculator does not send the entered period date or cycle length to our server, store them in browser storage or put them in the page address. Avoid entering these personal details into shared-device notes or screenshots if you do not want to share them.

The [Portuguese version](https://simcalculo.com/pt-br/calculadora-periodo-fertil/) uses the same calculation code. Dates and explanatory text are localized; switching language opens the equivalent page without transferring your entered health information.
