Before taxes and deductions. Use a decimal point, such as 52,000.50.
Every two weeks differs from twice a month.

A standard comparison uses 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 annual hours. Include paid vacation in paid weeks; reduce weeks for unpaid time. For a fixed annual salary, fewer weeks increase its hourly equivalent — they do not reduce the annual amount entered.

How to convert salary to hourly pay

Divide annual gross salary by the number of paid hours represented in that year:

Hourly equivalent = annual salary ÷ (hours per week × paid weeks per year).

For example, a USD 52,000 annual salary at 40 hours a week for 52 paid weeks gives 2,080 annual hours. USD 52,000 ÷ 2,080 = USD 25.00 per hour. At the same schedule, USD 60,000 a year is approximately USD 28.85 per hour.

Convert hourly pay to an annual salary

Multiply the hourly rate by weekly hours and paid weeks. USD 25.00 × 40 × 52 = USD 52,000 a year. A 30-hour week at the same hourly rate gives USD 39,000 over 52 paid weeks. This comparison does not add overtime premiums.

Every two weeks versus twice a month

Twice-monthly pay uses 24 payments across a full year. Every-two-week pay uses two paid weeks per period; under the standard 52-week assumption that is 26 periods. For USD 52,000 annually and 52 paid weeks, the equivalents are USD 2,000 every two weeks and USD 2,166.67 twice a month. They are different payment schedules.

A calendar payroll year can occasionally contain an extra payday. This tool uses annualized equivalents, not a payroll calendar or a prediction of your exact paycheck.

Paid leave and unpaid time

Include paid vacation and paid holidays in your paid weeks. If a year includes four unpaid weeks, 48 paid weeks may be appropriate. At USD 25.00 per hour and 40 hours a week, that gives USD 48,000 annually.

If you enter an already fixed annual salary, changing the weeks does not reduce that annual salary. It changes how many paid hours the salary is spread across. The resulting rate is a mathematical comparison, not necessarily your contractual hourly rate.

What this calculator includes

The results show gross annual pay, monthly and twice-monthly averages, paid-week and two-week equivalents, and daily and hourly rates. Workdays per week determine the daily equivalent; changing them alone does not change the hourly rate.

Income taxes, payroll deductions, benefits, bonuses, commissions and overtime premiums are excluded. Currency selection changes the currency label and number formatting only. No exchange rates are applied. Irregular hours and seasonal schedules require an appropriate average.

Formula reference

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics wage-estimate methodology describes 2,080 hours as a year-round, full-time convention. That reference explains the common 40 × 52 assumption; this calculator lets you enter your own schedule and does not use wage survey amounts or tax tables.

All conversions run in your browser. The calculator does not send the pay amounts you enter to our server.
