It does not calculate a weighted course grade, GPA, extra credit, curves or penalties.

How to calculate a test grade

For equally weighted questions, divide the number of correct answers by the total number of questions and multiply by 100.

Test percentage = correct answers ÷ total questions × 100.

If you answered 17 of 20 questions correctly, your score is 17 ÷ 20 × 100 = 85%. On the example A–F scale selected by default, that is a B. Your school may use different cutoffs.

Calculate your grade from wrong answers

Subtract wrong or unanswered questions from the total first. With 3 wrong out of 20, you have 17 correct, so the result is 85%. This assumes all questions carry the same number of points and there is no penalty beyond losing the question’s points.

Partial credit and unequal question values

Choose points mode when questions have different point values or you receive partial credit. Enter the total points earned and total points possible. For example, 42.5 out of 50 gives 85%. This is a single-test calculation; it does not combine assignments or apply course-category weights.

Letter-grade scales are not universal

The default example uses A at 90%, B at 80%, C at 70% and D at 60%, with F below 60%. The plus/minus option is another labeled example. Use custom thresholds if your instructor provides a different A–F scale, or select percentage only.

Instructure’s grading-scheme documentation describes letter grades as labels tied to percentage ranges. The relevant ranges depend on the scheme in use. None of the examples here should be treated as a national or official standard.

Rounding and pass marks

Letter grades and pass-mark comparisons use the full, unrounded score. For instance, 89.99% stays below a 90% threshold. If a percentage would display as the next threshold after rounding, the calculator shows a less-than sign rather than incorrectly suggesting that threshold was reached.

The pass-mark field is a comparison you choose, independent of the letter scale. You can leave it empty. It does not determine an official pass or fail, which may involve other rules.

Score chart and limitations

For tests with up to 100 equally weighted questions, expand the score chart to look up every possible number of correct and wrong answers. Downloading CSV includes the chart and identifies your selected score. Larger tests still calculate normally without generating a long chart. Points mode exports the selected result.

Extra credit above the possible points, grading curves, negative marking, GPA and weighted final-course grades are outside this tool’s scope. Calculations run in your browser; no student names or score submissions are needed.

How to calculate a test grade For equally weighted questions, divide the number of correct answers by the total number of questions and multiply…

["post-9652","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
